As part of her work toward the completion of a doctoral degree, Alisha Wagner, PhD, now an HCPC Post Doctoral Fellow, wanted to test whether or not this relationship between memory and depression held true in another group--college students with symptoms of depressed mood. Wagner's work involved two areas of psychology not often linked: cognitive psychology, which studies how people process information and clinical psychology, the study of and treatment of persons with mental illness. "Psychopathology, " Wagner explains, "is a facet of clinical psychology, while cognitive psychology focuses on normal human learning, thinking and memory.
